Rhazumnik Atolna
A grounded pirate; A retired soldier.
Rhazumnik Atolna was born in the southern foothills of Bozja in 1541 well after the conquest of the Empire over it’s people – Yet even after such a conquest, the traditions and will of it’s people went on. His family worked as lowly manual laborers, erecting new buildings and monuments to the glory of the Garlean Empire, yet in secret were part of the Bozjan resistance feeding information and fighting to remove the Empire from their homeland. From a young age, Rhazumnik showed little aptitude for learning and so was soon flunked from the Imperial Academies offered to the Bozjans, leaving him to the work of his family, as laborers to do the manual lifting and hauling required by the Garlean Empire.During this time, as Rhazumnik grew up, his family taught him their lives had been better without the Empire – How the old Bozjan way of life had been. By the time he had become an adult, he was fully part of the resistance fighting against their Garlean oppressors. Things became too hot after a raid gone wrong in an attempt to get weapons to fight against the Garleans, Rhazumnik and his family fleeing south toward Gangos to hide out in the thick jungles and shorelines – Something that would end up saving them just a year later. When the Bozjan incident came to be, and Bozja itself became a ruined husk, the rebel cell that Rhazumnik had been apart of had been horrified – The stories they heard being from fleeing people lost in a panic. Some claimed it was a weapon the Garleans had brought to wipe out all of the Bozjan people so they could move Garleans in to live there with no resistance, others said Dalamud reigned divine judgment on the Garleans, but all that could be discerned was that Bozja was no more. With Bozja gone, the rebel cell that Rhazumnik was a part of fled onto one of the ships that were taking civilians who wanted to flee east, west, and south.Managing to commandeer the ship, the queen who had run the resistance cell – Atoln – Had managed to rally the people to stay in Gangos, though things had to change. With no supplies to sneak from Bozja to Gangos, they needed to steal them from passing ships, raiding and pillaging coastlines and ships in order to survive and keep any semblance of Bozjan pride alive rather than turning into beggars. It was here Rhazumnik’s journey and forays into fighting began – Taking up a gunblade, a traditional weapon of Bozja, he was able to cut men in two with his arms long since trained and strengthened by moving heavy materials.Things went well for some time, raids and pillaging becoming their way of life until they were little more than a pirate band – For they found the Empire only on the open seas to steal from them. As the battle of Carteneu Flats took place and Bahamut shattered Eorzea, Garlean eyes finally turned elsewhere – The seas now becoming filled with fighting craft and airships, something they could not fight with their small hodgepodge of ships and fighters. So it was with heavy heart that Atoln ordered their people west, making for not Eorzea, but Vyllbrand in seeking safety in Limsa Lominsa where they would not face repercussions for their pirating ways. They found themselves quickly breaking apart – What kinship they had quickly falling away as need for money, greed for power and fame, and loose family ties left them separating into smaller family units. Rhazumnik was left alone, his family having long since passed into history under the waves during their countless raids in the straits between Ilsabard and Thavnair. So, rather than join the pirate crews as many of his compatriots had taken to, he turned to the newly reformed Maelstrom – Seeking to make a name for himself and train formally with his gunblade. It was a quiet life of patrols and fighting, his share of the plunder they had taken with them to Eorzea sitting in banks until he could find a use for it – Seeking purpose, not money, in his time with the Maelstrom. When the Final Days came about, he fought at the frontlines against the countless horrors unleashed on the star of Eitherys. His heroism in the face of the endless beasts that were unleashed in the Final Days earning him a trophy as well as his right to resign – Something he decided to do so with grace rather than fighting until his body gave out.It wasn’t long until he became restless though, a life of fighting and piracy leaving one ill-situated to retirement. Taking his saved funds, he purchased a home in The Mists – Something to call his home, naming is ‘The Emberswake Rest’ after the ship his family took refuge on, The Emberswake and in some way, a slight hope to rekindle lost ties with those he spent so much of his life with. Even with this though, he found himself unable to sit still, taking up his gunblade from the mantle to try and find fight and adventure even as he grew older.
